Whether you live in a large mansion or someplace with less square footage, a residence often has at least one smaller-than-desired bathroom. If so, you can still design a spectacular bathroom in that small space. One style that's been growing in popularity with homeowners is an industrial look. Industrial designs, once exclusively seen in urban lofts, are now popping up all over the country.

To start, you should choose a durable tile that resembles a light-colored wood for your flooring. Wood and metal are what give an industrial look its signature appearance. Because of the wet-nature of a bathroom, tile is preferable, so selecting a style that looks like wood will produce an excellent result that fits in with an industrial style and is also easy to maintain.

For bathing, you can place a modestly-sized, white clawfoot tub with cannonball feet in a brushed nickel finish in one corner of the room. You can then paint one or more walls around the tub in black which will coordinate well with an industrial look and create a focal point. The rest of the walls should be painted white to break up the darkness.

Install a black pedestal sink with a faucet in brushed nickel to match the feet of the bathtub. Hang an oval mirror with a black frame over the sink. The mirror should also be a medicine cabinet where you can store medication or toiletries. For lighting over the sink, a caged design over each bulb will highlight your industrial design to perfection.

For additional storage in this small space, place a cabinet above the toilet. Select one with multiple shelves in a color that matches the flooring for the best look. You can then store towels and personal-need items in the cabinet, so they're in a convenient location where you can find them easily.

A small bathroom doesn't mean you can't create a stunning space. Choosing an industrial style for your bathroom, whether you live in a single-family home, a condominium, a townhouse, or a loft, is a fabulous choice.
